Message from Paul Maurice Potter, Former Queens Messenger, on behalf of BBAG, April 2007:

“The Bartlet Convalescent Home in Felixstowe is being sold in a rush private sale by the NHS without due thought to the problems this will cause within the wider Suffolk community. The NHS has claimed ownership of the Bartlet, after it was given to the people of East Suffolk and Ipswich Hospital District by Dr John Henry Bartlet in his will in 1917 along with enough money to keep it running. Ipswich NHS hospital already offers patients ‘weak services’ and is planning to shed 357 full time jobs and 71 beds. Two hospital theatres are also due to close. With Suffolk’s health service already in chaos, the closure of the Bartlet will further aggravate the situation. The Bartlet Bequest Action Group has been set up to secure this facility for future generations in East Suffolk.

- Having initiated legal action to recover the facility we need to raise £55k to support the action. This is where I am asking for your help. Please can you make a donation or pledge to BBAG?”
